1. Look at the Rhind Papyrus problem 1.D2 (b) Problem 31. Explain what is going on.

2. Look at the Rhind Papyrus problem 1.D2 (c) Problem 41 and (d) Problem 42.

   1. Do the questions how you would do them.

   2. Explain the Egyptian method.

   3. Are the methods in both problems the same? Do you think the authors of the Rhind Papyrus knew an approximation for π? If so, what is it?

3. Look at the proofs of Proposition 5 from Euclid’s book 1 in the handout. Do they all work? Do they all prove the same thing? Which one is clearest?
